Deconstruction Inquiry

DECONSTRUCTION

Deconstruction involves preparing a house for demolition or renovation. When Habitat performs a deconstruction, cabinets, appliances, and other household items are carefully removed from the home by experienced volunteers or staff. These items are then taken to the ReStore to be sold to support Habitat Cape May’s mission to build affordable housing in Cape May County.

FAQs

Does Habitat do deconstructions outside Cape May County?
At this time we can only perform deconstruction projects in Cape May County.

Does Habitat take trash or dispose of items?
Due to the nature of being a non profit and keeping costs low, we can’t take any items we can’t sell at the ReStore.

What items can be donated to habitat with the deconstruction process?
We maintain a full list of items that are currently being accepted or rejected on our Cape May County Habitat ReStore website. Store staff has final say if items will be taken or left behind.

Does Habitat perform full Utility disconnections (gas, water, electric)?
Although it is preferred and easiest if the homeowner has the utility company disconnect the utilities, Habitat assumes limited responsibility and will be in communication in what is feasible for Habitat to execute and work with during the deconstruction process.
