We’re currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help fill a need in our ReStore. If you are not aware, our ReStore is located in Cape May Court House. It’s the perfect place to put your talents to work and make a difference! Whether you enjoy customer service, merchandising, or another area, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities tailored to your interests and skills. By volunteering with us, you’ll help families achieve safe, decent, and affordable housing while having a fun and rewarding experience. Our store is open Monday – Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Here are some of the areas and times where we need the most help:
Involves standing, sitting, walking, crouching, bending, some use of tools.
1 to 2 per shift.
- Assess incoming donations for damage; tighten screws, etc where appropriate.
- Use appropriate cleaner (Pledge, Orange Glo, Windex, etc) to remove dust, grime, and fingerprints.
Involves standing, walking, bending, light lifting.
1 to 3 per shift.
- Sweep and vacuum appropriate area of sales floor.
- Use appropriate cleaners (Windex, etc) to maintain cleanliness of store windows.
- Use appropriate cleaners (Lysol, etc) to maintain cleanliness of store bathrooms.
- Maintain stock of toilet paper, paper towels, and soap in store bathrooms.
- Use appropriate cleaners (Pledge, Orange Glo, Windex, etc) to maintain cleanliness of product on sales floor.
Involves standing, sitting, walking, crouching, bending, pushing, light to heavy lifting, periods of inactivity.
1 to 3 per shift.
- Greet donors at the donation zone as they drop off donations.
- Assess donation and determine whether it can be recycled back into the community.
- Assist donor in removal of donation from vehicle.
- Assist donor in completion of donation receipt.
- Transport donation from donation zone to stockroom.
- Maintain cleanliness of donation zone, walkway, and trash receptacle areas.
Involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, light to heavy lifting, use of tools.
1 per shift.
- Test electronic and appliance donations for functionality.
- Use appropriate cleaner to remove dust, grime, and fingerprints.
- Merchandise electronic and appliance donations in the appropriate area of the sales floor.

1 per shift.
- Warmly welcome customers to the ReStore.
- Explain tag policy and special sales.
- Explain return, exchange, and hold policies.
- Assist in directing consumers to the appropriate departments, based on their shopping needs.
Involves sitting, standing, crouching, bending, light lifting, organization.
1 per shift.
- Process and merchandise book donations.
- Process and merchandise DVD and VHS donations.
- Process and merchandise CD and LP donations.
- Maintain safety and organization of department.
Involves standing, crouching, bending, walking, light lifting.
1 per shift.
- Process and merchandize art and mirror donations.
- Use appropriate cleaner (Windex, etc) to remove dust, grime, and fingerprints.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of department.
Involves standing, crouching, bending, walking, heavy lifting, organization.
1 to 2 per shift.
- Process and merchandise building material donations.
- Price building materials in accordance with the pricing guide.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of department.
Involves standing, sitting, walking, cash handling.
1 to 2 per shift.
- Warmly greet customers at the counter and ask if they found everything that they were looking for.
- Ring purchases, in person and over the phone, into the POS system and process payment accurately.
- Process returns and exchanges accurately in accordance with ReStore policies.
- Inform furniture loaders of the sale so that the items may be removed from the floor.
- Fill out hold log and sale slip in the event that the purchase will be picked up at a later date; attach sold slip to purchase.
- Alert furniture loader when paid holds are being picked up and remove the transaction from the hold log.
- Schedule appointments for donation drop-off, noting donor name, phone number, items and time in the appropriate log.
- Cleanse cash wrap area, registers, phone, and other frequently handled items with appropriate sanitizer at end of shift.
Involves standing, walking, bending, twisting, crouching, heavy lifting, pulling, pushing.
1 to 3 per shift.
- Assist in safely transporting furniture from sales floor and hold areas into purchaser’s vehicle.
- Assist in safely transporting furniture from sales floor to the hold area.
- Assist in safely transporting furniture from the stockroom to the sales floor.
Involves standing, walking.
1 to 2 per shift.
- Warmly greet and engage customers on the sales floor.
- Answer questions about product and pricing.
- Answer questions about specials and sales.
- Answer questions about return and exchange policies.
- Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and organized sales floor through cleaning and merchandising .
Involves sitting, typing, phone etiquette, computer skills, knowledge of county geography and zip codes.
1 per shift.
- Answer phone inquiries regarding donation drop-off and pick-ups.
- Schedule donation pick-ups within Cape May County using the ReSupply app, capturing all donor information with accuracy.
- Warmly thank donor for their donation and support.
